In our previous article, we’ve stated that summer is one of the most popular times when homeowners have their roofs repaired or replaced since they have an abundance of free time. We’ve also talked about the challenges that roofers often face during a hot weather installation. While some homeowners may think that installing new roofing shingles are as simple as going up there and hammering them on the system, this isn’t actually the case as there are actually some do’s and don’ts that your roofers have to follow, especially during the hot weather.
In this post, Expert Contracting, one of the country’s leading roofing companies, discusses the do’s and don’ts of installing shingles during the hot weather.
Do: Cool Down The Shingles
As stated in the previous article, asphalt shingles can be susceptible to scuffing due to the heat causing the asphalt coating to soften. While it’s a perfectly good option to wait for cooler conditions, you can actually use a garden hose to cool the shingles down faster. Simply use the garden hose to spray cold water on the shingle surface to cool them down and your roofers can get back to work in no time.
Don’t: Forget To Wind Seal
Before you have the new shingles installed, there’s a possibility that they sat in the sun for quite some time. Upon removing the shingles, make sure to spread them out on the roof with the self-sealing dots facing up. That way, they won’t stick on the existing roof or on the newly installed shingles.
Do: Use A Piece of Old Sofa Sponge
When having a roof replacement project conducted, consider having a piece of sponge or yellow foam nearby. Lend it to your roofer to help them prevent sliding down on steep roofs and avoid burning from the shingles during the installation process.
Don’t: Forget to Hydrate
Summer days can be incredibly hot and exhausting. Make sure everyone–including yourself–has plenty of water on hand.
